To provide a safe and enjoyable work environment for individuals with intellectual and developmental delays along with other special needs. To create a place of acceptance for all people in the community; a place to receive, and give back.
Kenzie’s BE Cafe will provide an opportunity for people with and without special needs to work together. This cafe will provide a place where everyone can come together to feel purpose, importance, and to realize that we aren’t all that different on the inside.
Our gratitude to Brody’s BE Cafe for sharing this important mission with Kenzie’s BE Cafe and our community.
A New Purpose For A Historic Building
Kenzie’s BE Cafe will operate out of the historic Crescent Theater building located at 1103 Washington Ave., Grand Haven, MI 49417. The Crescent Theater was built at the corner of Ferry Street and Washington Avenue in 1928 during the end of the silent movie era. It could sit 570 people and included an enclosed “crying room” for parents and their fussy babies. This was the time when live music played by an organist accompanied the movies, and 25 cents could buy you a ticket. The building’s life as a movie theater was short-lived, and by 1939 its doors were closed.
Kenzie’s BE Cafe, along with community partners, is restoring the Crescent Theater to its original beauty and bringing new life to Grand Haven’s Washington Square neighborhood.
